Share

Africa Comicade is celebrating its victory as one of the recipients of the $200,000 Unity Workforce grant. Amidst a staggering 700 proposal submissions, this achievement highlights the organization’s commitment to advancing digital skills and fostering the potential of the African video game industry.

Out of the numerous submissions from higher education institutions, for-profit and nonprofit organizations dedicated to nurturing the next generation of real-time 3D creators, Africa Comicade was chosen as one of the four outstanding projects. This selection was made by an esteemed panel of over 60 judges.

The other notable projects include:

1. The University of Central Florida Nicholson School of Communication & Media (NSCM) Games and Interactive Media Program, which focuses on professionally training undergraduates and adult learners in AR/VR.

2. The Do It Greener Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Louisiana, with a real-time 3D technology hub that prioritizes the recruitment and support of young learners from underrepresented populations.

3. XR Bootcamp, an organization dedicated to enhancing diversity in the XR industry.

Africa Comicade stands out for its mission to equip interested learners across Africa with digital creative skills in game development.

Winning this grant empowers Africa Comicade to further elevate the video game industry in Africa. Currently, the organization is gearing up for its Gamathon, a hybrid event focused on advancing the gaming industry in Africa. The Gamathon boasts an exciting lineup of activities, including Mortal Kombat and FIFA tournaments with a notable prize pool of 100,000 naira. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of it by applying here.

This initiative is a result of Unity’s partnership with Jobs For the Future (JFF), aiming to fund workforce development organizations and programs. Their shared goal is to make training and job opportunities accessible to all through immersive training programs.
