FEJA 8th Edition Recap
The 8th edition of FEJA (FEJA 8) was held from November 15th to 17th, 2024, at Cosmos Yopougon, Côte d’Ivoire. It was an eventful three days packed with highlights.
Day 1: Opening Day
The event began with an opening speech by Sidick Bakayoko, the founder of Paradise Game. Additional speeches were delivered by Mr. Laurent Bonneau and Emmanuel Forsans, the President of the French Video Game Alliance. These remarks set the tone for the exciting days ahead.
Day 2: Panel Sessions
Two impactful panel sessions were hosted, both addressing key aspects of esports in Africa.
- Social and Community Impact on Video Games: This session explored how video games can influence society and foster community development. The discussions provided actionable insights for integrating gaming into the broader social fabric.
- Inclusivity in Gaming: This all-female panel tackled the topic of inclusivity in gaming, emphasizing the gender disparity in competitive esports. While casual female gamers are abundant, competitive representation remains low. The panelists highlighted the influence of women in the tech sector and shared strategies for promoting diversity in the gaming industry.
Day 3: Tournament Time
FEJA hosted participants from 10 African countries competing across 9 game titles, including EAFC, Street Fighter, and NBA 2K25.
- In Street Fighter, Nigerian pro gamer Chux emerged as the overall champion.
- In NBA 2K25, Levidepaul claimed victory.
- In Tekken8, Mood took the crown.
Each game featured prize pools and additional incentives, such as qualifications for the upcoming CAGE24 finals, which will take place on November 30th.
FEJA also partnered with Goethe-Institut Côte d’Ivoire to host a game creation competition (Game Jam), showcasing the creativity of African developers.
Future of FEJA
We eagerly anticipate future editions of FEJA, which promise to bring even more remarkable events, expand the esports ecosystem, and foster growth through tournaments and strategic partnerships.
