Unbeaten Kenya Lifts Cade Esports Rivalry Series Season 2 Trophy

Shaq and Prorate came through two days of EA SPORTS FC 26 competition in Lagos without losing a single fixture, finishing top of a five-nation table that also held Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. It was Kenya's first appearance at the tournament. They flew home with the trophy, the best individual record in the competition, and a set of results that will take some living down in West Africa.

The second edition of the Rivalry Series ran across Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September at the Celebration Church International headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos. Ten players, two per nation, played twenty matches over the weekend, with every one of them streamed live on the Cade Esports YouTube channel.

The late change that decided the tournament

Kenya were not supposed to line up the way they did. Harry Kappa had been named to play alongside Shaq, with Prorate attached to the squad as coach. Kappa did not make the trip. Prorate moved from the sideline to the controller, and by Saturday night he had finished as the best individual player at the tournament.

Nobody plans for that. Kenya were the only debutants in the field and the only side arriving without a full-strength roster, which is part of why almost nobody had them winning it.

Day one: Nigeria set the tone, Kenya rewrote it

The competition opened with Nigeria against Ghana, a pairing that never needs manufactured tension. Faruk Manzo and Kyran could not be separated and finished 3-3. Then John "KillerFreak" Okamm put ten goals past Survival, winning 10-4 to give Nigeria a 13-7 aggregate and the first three points of the weekend.

Kenya's opening fixture changed the temperature in the room. Senegal had come with Dexx Jr, widely rated among the three best FC players on the continent, alongside Coldfire Jr. Shaq went first and beat Coldfire 7-1. Prorate followed and beat Dexx Jr 10-8. Kenya 17, Senegal 9.

Speaking afterwards, Shaq put it down to nothing more complicated than sticking to the plan and staying relaxed. Prorate, who had just beaten Dexx, still rated the Senegalese among the top three players in the region. There was no attempt to talk the result up beyond what it was, which somehow made it land harder.

Ghana recovered later that evening against Côte d'Ivoire. Survival edged CKE 6-5 and Kyran beat Neotrix 4-3 for a 10-8 aggregate. Then came the marquee tie of the opening night. KillerFreak beat Shaq 5-3, Prorate answered with a 5-3 win over Faruk Manzo, and Kenya and Nigeria walked away with eight goals apiece and a point each.

Both sides finished Friday on four points. Kenya led on goal difference. Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire never got their scheduled fixture in and it was pushed to Saturday.

Day two: Senegal's charge, Kenya's nerve

Senegal spent Saturday trying to erase Friday. They won the postponed tie against Côte d'Ivoire, then beat Ghana and Nigeria to take nine points from three fixtures, the best single-day return of the tournament. It still was not enough.

Kenya's answer was quieter and just as effective. Against Côte d'Ivoire, Prorate edged Neotrix 7-6 and Shaq beat CKE 9-7 for a 16-13 aggregate. Against Ghana they won by two goals across the tie, Shaq drawing his match and Prorate taking his. Four fixtures, three wins, one draw, no defeats.

Nigeria beat Côte d'Ivoire but lost to Senegal, which dropped the hosts to third on goal difference. Côte d'Ivoire finished the weekend without a point, though three of their four defeats came by three goals or fewer across two matches. They were closer than the table suggests.

Final standings

Fixtures were decided on aggregate across two matches, with three points for a win and one for a draw.

Prorate: from the bench to Player of the Tournament

Prorate finished the Rivalry Series with four wins from four matches, no draws, no defeats, a goal difference of plus seven and the maximum twelve points available on the individual table. He was named Player of the Tournament and had already been named Player of the Day on Friday.

Shaq's record read two wins, one draw and one defeat, with a goal difference of plus six from seven points. His 7-1 win over Coldfire Jr on Friday was the biggest individual margin of the weekend and the result that told the rest of the field Kenya had not come to make up numbers. For a player who has spent 2026 building a case as one of East Africa's best, it was another entry on a growing list.

Between them they lost one match across the entire tournament. That is the whole story of the weekend in a sentence.

The show around the games

Cade Esports built the Rivalry Series to look and feel like international football and the production leaned all the way into it. National jerseys, country flags, squad-announcement graphics, matchday results cards and a trophy shaped around the outline of the continent. Don Jazzy, Zlatan Ibile, Dr Sid, Seyi Awolowo and Coach B.J all appeared on the promotional run into the event.

PlaywithTomide, one of Nigeria's most followed gaming creator, played a central role in driving awareness for the weekend. His involvement is a reasonable proxy for where African esports promotion now sits. The tournament reached a general audience because a creator with a general audience carried it, not because a competitive gaming calendar did the work on its own.

The two broadcast days drew more than a hundred thousand views on YouTube, alongside millions of impressions across social platforms. Organisers put the goal count for the weekend at 220 across the twenty matches, an average of eleven per game, which tells you plenty about how these fixtures were being played.

The event was backed by GameEvo, Celebration Church, VGA Esports, Factory of Productions, Bayse, Kon10dr, Paga, Trace, Esports Africa News and Nexal Gaming Company.

What it sets up

The Rivalry Series has landed at a useful moment. Cade Esports confirmed days before the event that CAGE26, its flagship tournament, had been pushed to 2027. The Esports Nations Cup has also been postponed, which left a group of players who had already qualified through the original ENC pathway, Shaq, Faruk Manzo and Kyran among them, with far less competitive football than they had planned for. Lagos gave them somewhere to play.

Organisers have signaled that a third edition will be larger, with more countries expected to enter. On the evidence of this weekend there is an appetite for it. Five nations produced ten fixtures, one point separating first and second, and a champion nobody had picked.

Cade Esports closed the weekend with a message to the continent that ended on a line worth holding onto: five nations, one battlefield, one champion. Kenya were the ones left standing. Whoever wants the trophy next has to go through Nairobi to get it.
