The FIFAe Nations Cup is an Esports tournament organized by FIFA in partnership with EA Sports. Established in 2019, the tournament runs for a whole year and is usually rounded off with the FIFAe Nations Cup where 24 teams compete online by playing matches from the latest FIFA football video game in a format of 3 matches (1v1, 1v1, 2v2).
In 2021, the tournament was set to take place in Copenhagen but was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the $400,000 prize pool shared equally among the 24 teams. In 2022, the tournament took place in Copenhagen with the same prize pool.
24 teams were divided into four groups of six teams each in the group stage and all matches in this stage were played by a single game, the four top teams moved on from this stage to the round of sixteen, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final game.
Denmark, Italy, Brazil, France, Argentina, Sweden, Portugal, and Poland qualified for the semi-finals, Italy, Brazil, Sweden, and Poland moved on to the semi-finals and Brazil emerged the winner of the FIFAe Nations Cup, 2022, winning $120,000.
This year, the tournament has a prize pool of $1,000,000 attached and is happening live in Saudi Arabia. The winner will win $300,000, the team that emerges in second place will go home with $150,000 and the 3rd and 4th positions will win $75,000.
The following countries have been grouped and are set to compete in this year’s FIFAe Nations Cup
FIFAE NATIONS CUP 2023 GROUPS
Group A: Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Canada, Qatar, Denmark, Netherlands.
Group B: Morocco, USA, France, Malaysia, Italy, Finland.
Group C: Spain, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Portugal, Turkey.
Group D: Israel, India, South Africa, Peru, Germany, Sweden.
These teams will compete in a 2v2 format and the top four teams at the end of the group stage will proceed to the next stage, the round of sixteen where the knockouts will begin.
The knockout matches are played in a two-legged format where the aggregate score will decide the winner, and extra time and penalties will be resorted to if there’s a draw on aggregate (away goals rules used in conventional football games are not applied in FIFAe tournaments)
FIFAe Nations Cup 2023 Points Table(Day 1)
Day one of the tournament ended with Argentina, leading Group A with 10 points, Saudi Arabia closely behind with 9 points, Netherlands and Denmark are both on 8 points, Canada with 5 points, and Qatar at the bottom of the ladder with 1 point.
France and Morocco lead Group B with 11 points each, followed by Italy having 7 points, Finland with 5, USA with 4, and Malaysia at the bottom with 2 points.
Group C has Turkey at the top with 13 points which is the highest point so far, followed by Brazil with 8 points, Singapore with 7 points, Australia with 6, Portugal with 5 and Spain with 1 point.
Israel and Sweden are currently leading Group D with 9 points each, followed closely by Germany with 8 points, Peru has 6 points, India with 4, and South Africa, with 2 points.
