A new pan-African esports tournament is bringing five countries together for what organizers are billing as a landmark moment for the continent's competitive gaming scene.

The Rivalry Series, organized by Cade Esport, will run for three days from September 4th to 6th, hosted at CCHQ in Ikeja, Lagos. The tournament brings together eight teams representing five African nations  Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and Kenya  in a battle to crown a single continental champion. Announcing the event, organizers declared simply: "Africa is about to collide."

The competing sides pull talent from across West and East Africa. Representing Senegal is S.O.L.O Esport, while Côte d'Ivoire's colors will be carried by Paradise Game. Nigeria fields two teams, OAS Esports and Game Evo, going head-to-head on home turf. Ghana enters with VGA Esports and Campdawn Esports, and Kenya rounds out the field with Phoenix Esports and the Esports Kenya Federation.

In total, the tournament will showcase ten players across the five nations, competing two-a-side per team.

How the Format Works

Organizers have laid out a distinctive scoring system designed to reward both individual and team performance across the tournament's 20 matches, with each player competing in four matches across nine-minute halves.

Each fixture is built from two matches added together, with results combined on aggregate to determine a winner. In one example shared by organizers, Team A's 3-0 win on the first seat, combined with a 0-2 loss on the second seat, produces an aggregate scoreline of 3-2 enough to hand Team A the fixture.

The stakes attached to each result are significant: a win is worth three points, with the losing side coming away empty-handed. A drawn fixture nets both sides a single point apiece, with no aggregate decider needed. A separate table will also track and rank the ten individual players across the tournament, running alongside the main team standings, with twelve points the maximum a team can hold from a single fixture.

Backing the Continent's Gaming Scene

The Rivalry Series has secured backing from a range of sponsors and partners, including Game Evo Esports, Celebration Church, Paga, Bayse, VGA Esports, Factory of Productions and Nexal Gaming Company, reflecting growing commercial interest in African esports as the industry continues to expand across the continent.

With fans, players, and sponsors converging on Lagos in September, the tournament looks set to be a significant test of appetite for structured, cross-border esports competition in Africa and could pave the way for the Rivalry Series to become a recurring fixture on the continent's gaming calendar.
