One of the biggest global Esports competitions is here again! The League of Legends championships popularly known as Worlds, organized by Riot Games is back again, this year’s edition will be held in Seoul, South Korea.
This is the third time Korea will be hosting the competition, the first was in 2014 and the second in 2018. Top teams from the national and regional competitions will be battling it out to get the largest share of the prize pool which hasn’t been decided yet.
The League of Legends is played by two teams of five where each player has a unique role in the arena, choosing different champions as their game avatar and the goal of each team is to destroy their opponent’s base on the other side of the map.
This year’s event will feature 22 teams competing through three stages: Play-in, Swiss, and the Knockout stage, after which the top two teams will engage in a fierce battle to determine the overall champion of the competition.
Kicking off with the Play-in stage, teams from Vietnam, Japan, Brazil, Southeast Asia, South America, and the United States’ Team BDS will lock horns in double-elimination brackets, battling it out in a best-of-three format from October 10th to the 15th at Seoul’s League of Legends Park.
The Swiss stage will then take center stage at the KBS Arena in Seoul, spanning from October 19th to the 23rd, and again from the 26th to the 29th of October 2023.
The Knockout stage will be played in a single elimination bracket and a best-of-five format. The quarter-finals and semifinals will take place in Busan while the finals will happen live on the 19th of November in Gocheok Sky Dome, Western Seoul.
A diverse lineup of teams, representing regions from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, China, Korea, North America, Vietnam, PCS (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Southeast Asia, and Oceania), Japan, Brazil, Latin America, and the qualifying series, will compete for glory.
Esports Enthusiasts and fans will be able to watch the competition physically in Korea and others who can’t make it down will be able to stream online.
The month-long event promises to be filled with exciting experiences and intense gameplay. For more information about the competition, check out the League of Legends Esports Wiki.
