COMICS, GAMES, AND ANIME (ATION) – these are the “holy trinity” of geek culture. However, more often than not, we don’t get to experience all three together due to their unique characteristics and their huge individual impact on geek and pop culture. We have seen some overlapping aspects over the years as we interact with these art forms and we have seen them evolve from just hobbies to a source of livelihood and perhaps most importantly, a way of preserving our culture and norms – whether it is traditional or contemporary.
Comic Con Ibadan and Nexal Gaming Company have been custodians of parts of this holy trinity in different worlds of their own. Nexal Gaming Company has been a juggernaut in creating a wide range of value in the African gaming and esports scene. This includes organising tournaments, community building, consultations as well as marketing initiatives.
On the other hand, Comic Con Ibadan has been the official haven for not just afrocentric comics and animation but also embracing the love from our ever-supportive Otakus. Comic Con Ibadan has been the beacon of hope, inspiration, and audacity by being the official comic convention and geek event of West Africa’s largest city – Ibadan.
After careful consideration of shared goals and values, Nexal Gaming Company and Comic Con Ibadan have decided to combine forces in delivering a complete and wholesome experience for everyone (both geeks and jocks) in Ibadan on the 14th of June, 2025 at Tranchard Hall, University of Ibadan.
This merger will mean the much-anticipated Comic Con Ibadan 2025 will be held in collaboration with the sensational University of Ibadan’s edition of the Campus Clutch Engy tournament. It should be noted that the tournament will also double as the esports version of the University of Ibadan’s SEALS Cup. All of these will happen under the single umbrella that we have tagged SYNERGY 2025
What this means is that we are doubling forces to magnify the experience we will be delivering to the community members of both brands. We will be releasing more details about this subsequently.
